Photographer’s Impression

I used to live at the Oceanfront in Virginia Beach, Virginia at the intersection of 34th Street and Atlantic Avenue. It was a wonderful experience to be so close to the beach that I could open my window in my bedroom at night and fall asleep to the soothing sounds of the ebbs and tides of the ocean.

During the tourist season, the beach and streets were filled with a mass of vacationers. It was hard to find a place of solitude during that time, so what I would do is go out very late at night or early before dawn and sit alone on the lifeguard stand and just immerse myself and soothe my inner soul, just listening to the soothing sound of the waves.

It was during one of those time that I took the shot of the very lifeguard stand. I knew my life on the oceanfront was coming to an end due to my fall into Autistic Regression, and just for the purpose of preserving those moments and memories of the calm that I felt there high upon my lifeguard stand, that I took this shot with my NX camera.

What I love about this shot is the shimmering light and sand that seem to highlight and bring to the front the lifeguard stand as the mains focus, while at the same time, just in background is the blurred shimmering lights that shine from the string of motels that move your eyes to focus upon just the moment after your focus on the Lifeguard Stand.

If I close me eyes even now and think of those memories, I can almost hear the sound of the ocean and the scent of the ocean air. Ah, the memories…

Twilight in Blue

Photographer’s Impression

This photo was taken just as the sun set above the pond located in the Satchem’s Head housing development of Midlothian, Virginia. It was a quick one shot take using a Digital Mirrorless Interchangeable-Lens Camera (MILC)Samsung NX with a 9–27mm OIS mode and Speed set to Auto: 1 / 16000sec. ~ 30sec, Manual: 1 / 16000sec. ~ 30sec. (1 / 3EV step) Bulb lens

I think it captures a surreal depressed mood, with a light of hope as the sun set upon the blockades of trees that block a better life yet to come.

This shot was taken at my step-daughters home for the simple reason that it is an exceptionally beautiful flower with dramatic contrast. This was a “one-shot take” using a Samsung NX Cameral with a 50mm lens shot from above, where I stood on an armchair to get the best light and perspective.

Orange Blossoms

Photographer’s Impression

When I snapped this shot of the Orange Blossoms, I was living in Virginia Beach, Virginia on the oceanfront. I often walked along the oceanfront sidewalks and boardwalk with my Samsung NX digital camera in tow.

Across the street from “The Mayflower”, my ocean-side apartment building, is a motel called “The Ocean Beach Club Resort”. Along the front of the motel I came across this beautiful patch of Orange Blossoms and with the camera in auto-mode, snapped a few shots. This is one of the betters ones.

The original photo image size was around 5000 x 4000 pixels, and the image quality is better at that resolution, but unfortunately Medium does not display images of that size, and as well most people do not have the screen size on their computer or cell phone of that size.

So, as a workaround, you have to rescale the image to a reasonable size. This one had to be scaled down to 652 x 560 pixels. The image quality suffers a bit at a smaller scale, but I still think the rescaled photo still reflects a beautiful photo.

The the thing I love about this photo is that the flowers are Orange – My favorite color!
